AICP's 19th Annual 2006 Conference
Orlando, Florida
October 10-12, 2006
Conference Highlights
Conference Overview
Orlando proved to be one of the best destination spots for an annual conference. The 2006 annual conference was our largest attended annual event with record breaking attendance - a total of 774 registered guests. This included 46 regulators from 26 states, 27 Exhibitors, 15 Sponsors and 162 first-time attendees.
We kicked off our conference with a Patio Party on Sunday evening. Edward Lybrook, AICP's 2006 President, opened the evening and introduced our guest speaker Rich Robletto, Deputy Commissioner Florida Insurance Department of Financial Services. Mr. Robletto welcomed everyone to the Sunshine State and wished us a successful conference. The weather certainly cooperated; attendees enjoyed themselves listening to the sounds of the "rocking" steel band, dining on everyone's picnic favorites, and who could forget the fabulous "dessert tables" under the stars. There was even a good old "Corn Toss" contest which was enjoyed by the more daring and athletic attendees. Networking was abundant, tables overflowed with guests, and chapters donated the great door prizes that were raffled off during the evening.

The 2006 AICP Annual Conference offered attendees a wide array of sessions and topics from beginner to advanced levels. In addition to record breaking attendance, program also broke records with multiple sessions exceeding the 100 mark in attendance. This definitely is a testament that AICP does provide conference attendees with the best in educational compliance programs. Subject matter experts presented workshops featuring technical insurance compliance issues, as well as general business and technology related subjects.
Following are highlights from just a few of the 69 sessions offered:
- Life and Health specialists attended sessions on new trends in Annuities, Life and Annuities Replacements and Suitability issues; Long Term Care; Group Disability; ERISA; Patriot Act; Best Practices for Filings; Medicare Part D; Advertising, Reinsurance; and the Interstate Compact.
- Those with interest in Property and Casualty compliance issues selected from sessions on Executive Liability; Ratemaking; Inland Marine; Surplus Lines; Punitive Damages, ID Theft, and Current Trends in Property and Casualty.
- In addition, participants were offered a variety of workshops from Market Conduct Exams; Ethics; Project Management; Workers Compensation; and sessions on timely issues such as Complaints; Future of Compliance; Debate on Federal Charter; and Recovery in the Aftermath of Natural Disasters.
- Tips for making the most of the latest in Technology trends were offered in sessions from Privacy in a Digital World; SERFF; Disaster Recovery; and Records Retention.
- Attendees were able to take a step back from their demanding work schedules to sharpen general business skills in areas such as negotiations, change management, research skills, and business communications.

Regulators/Industry
Forty-six regulators from 26 states, almost evenly divided between Life/Health and Property/Casualty, participated in a variety of programs at the conference. Representatives from NAIC, AHIP, PCI, AIA, SEC, FEMA, IAPP and the Office of Health and Human Resources provided updates on current issues and participated in general sessions. Individual sessions with regulators were offered through roundtables and networking opportunities.
Participants again this year were able to discuss insurance matters with a representative of Canadian regulators, Roger Bosse, from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.
Exhibitors/Sponsors
2006 was a record year for the Exhibitor Hall in Orlando with 27 registered Exhibitors and 15 Sponsors. The Exhibitors Hall was filled with food and refreshments for all, along with several Exhibitors and Sponsors who personally presented door prizes to attendees.
We look forward to an information packed year by Exhibitors and Sponsors in 2007!
The silent auction raises funds to help support AICP programs. Thanks to the generosity of individuals, vendors and corporate donors, the silent auction raised over $4,000 dollars. We had a record number of items to choose from and the bidding was fierce right down to the last second. Thanks again to all who participated and helped to make this year's event a success.
Committee Fair
The Committee Fair was a great success this year!!! We had bright new posters to advertise each committee and with the help of our Committee Fair Members, we had approximately 70 people signed up at conference to volunteer on various committees. That means almost one-half of our 2007 volunteers are people we met at Conference!
Education Designation Recognition
A special recognition luncheon, hosted by the AICP Board of Directors and Co-Chairs of the Education Committee was held this year. This function was organized specifically to recognize those AICP members who earned an AICP designation during the year. Forty-eight members were awarded a certificate of achievement for earning the Associate Compliance Professional (ACP), and/or the Certificate Compliance Professional (CCP) designation or for completing Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
All new designees received their certificates and ribbons recognizing their achievement. In all, 30 members received the ACP designation, 6 members received the CCP designation, and 12 members received both the ACP and CCP designations. In addition, 12 members received CE award for continuing education. All certificates have been sent to those designees who were unable to attend conference. Please contact Elaine Bailey or Michael Hollar, Education Co-Chairs if you have not received your certificate and CCP pin, if applicable.

First Timers Orientation
A new and improved "First Timers Orientation" was held Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2006. Over 164 First Time Conference attendees joined us for a brief overview of the chapter structure, educational opportunities and officer introductions. We than focused on how annual conference works, e.g., what the name tags mean, how to get around the hotel, chapter events, where to find the Exhibitors, and how to leave and check messages. A special networking presentation by our very own Vice President/President Elect, Katie Gurnett followed the overview. All First Timers at the event received a small gift from AICP and everyone had a great time with the networking presentation.
Volunteer Recognition
Our third annual Volunteer Recognition Brunch was held Sunday, October 8, 2006 to recognize those dedicated committee volunteers who work on AICP's annual charges in addition to any strategic charges assigned for the year. President, Edward Lybrook opened the brunch with words of appreciation and each Committee Chair recognized his/her committee members.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and recognize those volunteers who worked so hard to make the 2006 Orlando Conference a tremendous success.
Mark your calendars and keep watching the AICP website for details on the 20th annual AICP Conference to be held in Portland Oregon, October 28th-31st at
the Portland Hilton Hotel!
