Rick Guggolz was the Executive Director of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals from 2001 to 2017. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in June of 2017. Mr. Guggolz was a Vice President at Drohan Management Group and managed the AICP account as Executive Director for 16 years.
Mr. Guggolz worked tirelessly behind the scenes in managing AICP. It was with Rick's guidance that AICP became the organization it is today. In recognition of Rick's dedication to AICP, AICP leadership resolved that one of our three annual scholarships be named the "Rick Guggolz Memorial Scholarship."
Below is Rick's obituary as well as anecdotes from AICP members to remind us of Rick's significant impact on AICP over the years.
Rick was an avid follower of both local and national football and basketball and a big Washington Redskins and JMU Dukes fan. He maintained many friendships from high school and college and his professional life. He loved being with his family and friends, going to the beach and playing basketball. He recently authored the 4th edition of The History of Northern Region and Virginia High School Boys Basketball. He loved music and creating CDs for family and friends.
He was a passionate collector of and amassed a vast collection of beer cans and was an avid Jimmy Buffet "parrot head." One of his favorite quotes was, "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy." He will be dearly missed by many.

"My fondest memories of Rick were about his sense of humor. Prior to board meetings when I was an RD, he would circulate these hilarious emails with all the details about the upcoming meeting, full of tongue in cheek comments and wry observations." - Sue Eckler-Kerns
"When I think of Rick I think of someone who had a calm, even keel demeanor. He was happy to work behind the scenes. He just went about his business and got things done. He persevered with us through changes in leadership every year and was involved with us since 2002; a sustained time of the AICP's greatest success." - Nicholas Marrangoni
"He was such an asset to our organization, and he became a close and personal friend to many of us. Quite frankly, we would not be all that we are today if it had not been for Rick's support at DMG of our leadership folks as well as his participation in many of the AICP initiatives. I remember meeting Rick when we changed association management firms, and he was always there for us from the beginning. I will miss his friendship and his witticisms. Out of the many, many folks I know through the AICP, Rick was the only one who would send me an e-mail on July 22nd of each year to tell me he was thinking of me on the anniversary of losing my daughter…just shows the kindness, thoughtfulness and heart of Rick." - Bill Douglas
